Microblading is one of the hottest trends to hit the aesthetics industry in the last few years.Microblading and other semi-permanent makeup procedures to our practice allow clients the ability to make a non-invasive change to their appearance, without the need for reapplication on a daily basis.
Women all over the world have a desire for thicker, more pronounced, aesthetically pleasing eyebrows. And few were naturally blessed with those perfectly contoured brows we see online or on one of our favorite celebrities.
In order to do so, most women are turning to makeup brands to thicken, and shape their arches. And while this may work, short-term, the fact is that to maintain such a look, you’re costing yourself countless extra hours in front of the mirror every week. Microblading allows you to achieve those picture-perfect eyebrows, in one easy, non-invasive, semi-permanent procedure – without any need for reapplication.
Where do Thin Eyebrows Come From?
Many women simply weren’t blessed with the best genes for eyebrows. One look at the women on our mother’s side will usually tell it all. Thinning eyebrows have a tendency to run in the family, and it is often a genetic issue. However for some women, thin eyebrows can be a direct result of a poor diet or even a residual symptom of disease/trauma. The most common reasons for thinning eyebrows are:
- Aging: As we age certain hormones become depleted, as a side effect the individual may experience thinning hair. That can present itself on either the scalp, the eyebrows or even along the body.
- Overplucking: This is far more common than it may seem. When an eyebrow is plucked it can take over 6-weeks for it to grow back, however long-term plucking can cause damage to the hair follicle itself, causing it to never grow back!
- Poor Diet: When certain nutrients are depleted in the body, it can cause hair loss, not just on the scalp.
What is Microblading?
Microblading is a semi-permanent form of cosmetic tattooing, done to bolster the appearance of the eyebrows. Similar to all forms of tattooing, pigment is implanted under your skin with a manual handheld device similar to a tattoo machine. Using hair-like strokes the microblading tool mimics your natural eyebrow’s hair strands, and provides the thick, perfectly contoured, even eyebrows you’ve always wanted.
The fine strokes look extremely similar toan individual’s natural hair follicles, so much so that few can tell the difference at first glance. Using semi-permanent ink, it is essentially tattooed in place of your eyebrows. The ink however, isn’t placed as deep as a traditional tattoo, keeping the ink from bleeding through the skin and keeping the fine, thin, hair-like strokes that make it look so natural. Generally, microblading treatments are thought to be permanent, however they last anywhere from 2-4 years without the need to be retouched!
How Does it Feel?
Like all tattooing, microblading does come with minor discomfort. However, because the needle doesn’t penetrate as deep as traditional tattooing, the pain is far more manageable, and patients often liken it to a number of tiny scratches, or minor pinches. Some clients choose to use a numbing cream prior in order to lessen the discomfort – but for most, the pain is minor and easily managed.
Preparation
Microblading is a tattooing procedure, therefore it is important to adhere to certain rules before getting it done. One of the most important things to remember is that you should avoid anything that may thin your blood beforehand.
Common things to avoid are:
- Blood Thinners & Other Medication – Aspirin, Pain Killers, Retinol.
- Alcoholic Beverages
- Overconsumption of Caffeine
